Terry and Sioux Elledge When you first meet these two dynamic people, you can describe the experience in two words - fun and easy. You could say the sauce they created and the story behind it is the same, fun and easy.Sioux and Terry Elledge tell the story behind Sioux Z Wow. It was a life-changing discovery. They were having an impromptu dinner party in their home, serving chicken, but wanted to do something different, something fun. They went to their pantry and began throwing together ingredients to make a marinade that would liven up their chicken dinner. They did just that. While serving their guests, there was an a repetitious spontaneous reaction, "Sioux Z - - - - Wow! What is this amazing sauce?" And that's how it all began! Later Terry played around with the ingredients to make the recipe repeatable, because Sioux never measures. She playfully calls herself a "pour cook." Little did they know they had created a genie in a bottle, a rather magical marinade mixture that wafted aromas and grabbed culinary attention! According to Sioux, one food chemist tried Sioux Z Wow and said, "You have accidentally done what many food companies have tried to do for years - created a perfectly delicious, all natural marinade that will taste different on everything." This couple did not have a marketing or food background. Terry had spent many years within corporate America, and Sioux had been a therapist in private practice for 22 years. "My passion is cooking and entertaining," said Sioux. "Cooking was my therapy. Cooking has a beginning, middle and end. In therapy, there's no ending." After a few years of success in Southern California, being a hit in almost all of the fine food stores, Sioux and Terry moved north, settling in Napa Valley. "We wanted to expand our fine food customer base," said Terry "to include the foodies in the Bay Area - - - and to change the way we lived. We've never worked harder or had more fun," says Terry and Sioux. "But I guess that comes with living our passion. We put our love and joy in every bottle." At a recent food demonstration at Dean & Deluca in St. Helena, CA, Sioux and Terry sparked energy with tasters, while feeding them tantalizing tidbits, splashed with Sioux Z Wow. Being around them is fun and easy, using their recipes is as well. People get excited around them, and look forward to making their dishes and getting their own rave reviews. Sioux and Terry bring playfulness and whimsy into their customer's kitchens. Company History Sioux and Terry Elledge spent days perfecting their last-minute marinade creation, found a small manufacturer who took their recipe, and made the minimum run of 100 gallons of sauce. They set up shop at fine meat and produce stores and to their surprise and delight sold out quickly. They were on to something special. Soon after selling out their first batch of Sioux Z Wow Gourmet Marinade, they began taking their act on the road and found enthusiastic retailers all over California who were glad to add Sioux Z Wow to their shelves. "The trick was and still is getting them to try it," says Sioux. "Retailers receive hundreds of new products a year. It's hard to get noticed. We know when they try Sioux Z Wow, it'll be love at first bite, and they will buy it for their customers." One favorite story is during a trip to Napa Valley, they stopped at a market. Terry asked about placing Sioux Z Wow in the store and the meat cutter said, "Leave two bottles, one for me and one for the manager." Later, Sioux called to see how they liked it. During the call, the manager said, "Wait, I have your bottle right in front of me. She opened it, stuck her finger in and tasted it. Send me ten cases," were the next words out of her mouth. With that and other encouragement, they moved to Napa Valley, and continued to build their business. Several years ago when Terry and Sioux read that 96% of new food products brought to the market don't survive a year. They were both amazed and in awe how Sioux Z Wow Gourmet Marinade had beaten the odds by such a wide margin. "We're a one product company like A. I. Steak Sauce and Tabasco were for years, and like them, our success is based on our product's uniqueness, its integrity, versatility and ease of use." Testimonials
